About The Maker: Broadarrow Jack Leathers
I'm a leather worker primarily, but I can turn my hand to most crafts. I come from a background of make do and mend. If something wears out, it is repaired and keeps on working. Something that I feel we have lost as a society to a degree (although crafting is becoming more and more popular). The right to repair movement is something that I am quite passionate about.
My background is in theatre design and implementation. I have a degree in theatre crafts, which means I am at home behind a mixing desk as much as a work table. My full time journey into leatherworking began around 5 years ago, just before COVID hit, after I quit a teaching job at a top UK university teaching design and puppetry. But my love of leather working has been with me since I was a teenager and a re-enactor. I'd like to think my tastes have mellowed a little from some of the wackier designs I've created in the past, but I do have a penchant for innovation and non-traditional techniques and approaches to the design process. I also love providing workshops to fledgling leatherworkers so that they can develop the skills I have to be able to pass on their knowledge to their family and friends.
